Vote Bob Ross 2020

My next door neighbor's name is Brian.  We have lived next door to one another for nearly 20 years.  Our children have grown up together. They have all, since birth, been interchangable in our two homes.  In some ways, they all have two homes.  When my wife passed away several years ago, his family all but carried mine while we healed.  When he had a heart attack two years ago, his kids all but lived with us.

I am a proud conservative.  Brian is a firm Democrat; almost as "Snowflake" as they come.

In October, we had an argument sitting on my porch about impeachment.  It got heated, and until today, we hadn't spoken since.

Lifelong friends, torn apart over politics.

This is the America we live in.

For two months, my children and I have worked to build The Conservative Opposition.  If you have read our posts, you will see that we have studied the state of politics in our country for almost two months almost to the point of obsession.  Picked it to pieces in an attempt to understand.

I have learned a great deal, but what I have seen stand out more than anything is hate.  We are a nation divided.  A nation of partisan politics.  A nation where we have begun to vilify each other for having opposing beliefs.

I am a veteran.  I fought for every American's right to believe in what they choose; weather they agree with my own beliefs or not.

We are, as a country, being torn apart.  We are at war; Russia, Iran, and who knows how many other countries have invaded us just as surely as if they launched missiles.  But in today's world, wars are fought online.  Wars are fought with massive misinformation campaigns intended to create chaos and breed hatred.

We are under attack, but we are so busy attacking each other that no one seems to notice.

Please remember that we are all, above all else, Americans.  We may have opposing beliefs and opinions, but we are still citizens of the United States of America.

"One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, With Liberty and Justice For All."

Those words used to mean something.  We are not indivisible any more.  We are tearing ourselves apart from within.  And Russia and it's allies are pulling the puppet strings, laughing as we do.

So today.... Bob Ross.  I'm not sure why.  Maybe because he reminds me of a simpler time.  A time when we didn't hate each other for our beliefs.  A time when we really were indivisible.  So today, I went and apologised to Brian. I did not fight for us to tear ourselves apart.  Today, instead of trying to spread a message of division, I will spread the message... of Bob Ross.  Because sometimes... it's just that simple.
